This Session in Olympia

On Monday January 8 the Washington State Legislature began their 60-day legislative session. Hundreds of bills will be considered. Lawmakers will also approve a supplemental budget proposal from Governor Jay Inslee.

During this session Democrats control both chambers by super-majority margins: 58-40 in the House, and 29-20 in the Senate. This also means Democrats control all committees and hearings.

Let's Go Washington Initiatives

The Lynwood Times 

Secretary of State Steve Hobbs sent official notification to the Washington state Legislature on January 8 that all six Let’s Go Washington initiatives to the legislature have been granted provisional certification while signatures are being verified. Over 2.6 million signatures for all 6 initiatives were turned in.

The six initiatives are:

· Initiative to the Legislature no. 2081 parental rights related to education;

Jay Inslee, He's Not Finished Yet!

 Addressing the Legislature at the start of his final year in office, Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee returned to one of his top priorities and the issue that defined his brief presidential bid: climate change.

“We know that climate change is hurting us now, today. But climate collapse does not have to be our inevitable future,” he said in his 11th State of the State address. “This Legislature put us on a clear — and necessary — path to slash greenhouse gases by 95% by 2050.”

Chemical products, such as plastics, solvents, and fertilizers, include more than 6,000 oil-based products that are essential for supporting modern lifestyles. 

Recognizing that eradicating the world of oil without a replacement in mind would be immoral and evil, as extreme shortages of the products now manufactured from fossil fuels will result in billions of fatalities from diseases, malnutrition, and weather-related deaths, and could be the greatest threat to the world’s eight billion population.

Hamas Attacks Israel

Israel's immediate response to Hama's shocking attack was to launch a massive air strike against Hamas targets in Gaza.

Furthermore, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a full-scale siege of the Gaza Strip, vowing that Hamas"will be crushed and eliminated."

Over 300,000 Israeli military reservists have been called up, as the military prepares for a ground assault.

The results of the latest auction of CO2 allowances were announced and the price continues to rise, increasing 12 percent above the amount from just three months ago. The price hit $63.03 per metric ton of CO2, which amounts to about 50 cents per gallon of gasoline and 61 cents per gallon for diesel.
