WA Ballot Initiatives Panned By Editorial Boards

Are the state's editorial boards reflective of the general voting public? We'll know after the votes are counted on Initiative 517 and Initiative 522. Based on the near consensus of the editorials to date, supporters of the proposals may be feeling a bit nervous.

Health plans are sending hundreds of thousands of cancellation letters to people who buy their own coverage, frustrating some consumers who want to keep what they have and forcing others to buy more costly policies.

Republican Jan Angel in lead for state senate seat

Primary election results show Republican Rep. Jan Angel ahead in the race for the 26th Legislative District Senate seat against Democratic Sen. Nathan Schlicher.

Angel garnered about 54.7 percent of the vote, while Schlicher had 45.3 percent of the vote in the district that includes parts of Kitsap and Pierce Counties. Angel is in her third term as a state representative. Schlicher is an emergency room doctor who was appointed to fill the seat vacated by now-Congressman Derek Kilmer.

“Without much fanfare, the Department of Energy (DOE) recently updated the list of loan guarantee projects on its website,” the Institute for Energy Research noticed on Wednesday. ”Unlike in 2008, when Barack Obama pledged to create 5 million jobs over 10 years by directing taxpayer funds toward renewable energy projects, there were no press conferences or stump speeches.”

We are now—like it or not—immersed in a real debate about the nature of Islam. The background of deceased Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev is forcing us into it. There is no doubt Tamerlan, the elder brother of the two perpetrators, was transformed by his relatively recent embrace of radical Islam.
