Surging state revenue should quell talk of raising taxes amid ongoing pandemic

As state lawmakers enter the final weeks of the 2021 legislative session — and the start of the second year of the pandemic — the condition of the state budget is nothing short of amazing.

At this time last year, the economy was in lockdown and unemployment was surging. Almost overnight, thousands of businesses were forced to close their doors to slow the spread of the virus.

Battle Over The Filibuster

Senate liberals and their allies in the progressive movement are planning an assault on the filibuster rule. It's an arcane rule of the Senate that distinguishes it from the House of Representatives by requiring super-majority support for most legislation.

While Democrats initially promised to preserve the filibuster, the evidence is clear that they are getting ready to go "nuclear" so they can eliminate it.

Nancy Pelosi and her fellow gender-inclusive enthusiasts have taken a bold and much-disparaged move to erase language that expresses the reality of familial relationships. In the name of inclusivity, words like “father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law” have been targeted for erasure from House proceedings.
