Even as Washington’s gas prices have increased compared to neighboring states, staff at the Washington State Department of Ecology have repeatedly downplayed the impact of the state’s new tax on CO2 emissions. Last year, when asked about the impact on gas and diesel, Governor Inslee Claimed, “This is going to have a minimal impact, if any. Pennies. We are talking about pennies.”

Senate Outlook for 2023

After a competitive Senate runoff race in Georgia, incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) retained his seat. This was particularly disappointing for Republicans hoping to maintain at least the 50-50 split after the midterm elections. Even though the red wave we were hoping for didn’t pan out, we can learn some lessons from this year’s election cycle and have hope for the future.
